History
During the Advent and Christmas season Moravian Herrnhut Stars decorate many homes, restaurants, churches, social institutions, but also streets, squares and shop windows.

The design of this star goes back to the Star of Bethlehem, which led the Three Wise Men from the east to the birthplace of Jesus.

The tradition of families gathering to assemble the star and hang it up on the first Sunday of Advent is originated in Herrnhut, Germany and has been known throughout the world.

At the beginning of the 18th Century descendants of the Old Moravian Church settled in Germany and founded the town of Herrnhut. This became the starting point of a world wide missionary work of the MoravianChurch. The Moravian Church had boarding schools where children coming from missionary families were accepted. In order to facilitate the separation from their parents, especially during the Advent and Christmas season, a teacher had the idea to assemble a star of cardboard and paper 150 years ago. Soon the students were manufacturing the stars themselves.

It was only at the beginning of the last century when a moderate production line started and increased the popularity of this Christmas tradition worldwide. Even today the stars are still handmade.

We invite you to gather your family and friends to follow this tradition and build your own Christmas star to decorate your home during the Advent season.
